pi-top [4] Kickstarter campaign in numbers:
- $197k raised
- 521 backers
- 32 countries
Thank you for helping us raise $197K - here’s more on the development of pi-top [4].
One of the reasons that pi-top did a Kickstarter campaign was so that we can give the community behind the scenes access to the process of creating our game-changing pi-top [4] ecosystem.
What we've been up to post Kickstarter and what's coming up
We’ve been testing our first pi-top [4] with the 4GB Raspberry Pi 4 prototype which we featured in our last update on Kickstarter.
Our engineering team in Shenzhen, China has just completed the EVT (Engineering Validation Testing) phase and are swiftly moving onto the DVT (Design Validation Testing) phase over the coming weeks.
This part of the process aims to refine the tooling design and ensure all product requirements and specifications are 100% satisfied before we move onto the PVT (Production Validation Testing) phase, which is essentially just making the production process efficient and a chance to test out our Quality Assurance procedures more rigorously.
Throughout these phases we’ll be making up to 200 pre-release pi-top [4] units which will go out to testers and creators all over the world to start feeding content into our social making platform, pi-top Further, which sees its Beta launch in the next few weeks.
On top of this, we’re also busy confirming the final format of the pi-top AVK and of course, we’ve been exploring cool ways to let you do even more with this project kit - we’ll share more on this in a future update.
Projects with [4]
We’re all excited to see the projects that our community creates with pi-top [4] from November. But in the meantime, we’ve got a number of pi-top [4]’s, with the Raspberry Pi 3, out in the field for user testing, so we’ll try to share some of the cool things they’ve been making. For example, Chris Aitken, has just run his first Inventors Club of the session with the terms’ theme being Climate Change. His school has been using pi-top [4] and a Raspberry Pi Sense HAT to spark students' curiosity and creativity.
