When it comes to any revolution, pi-top believes in backing up the talk with action - or, in this case, by making! We partnered with EdTech Austin, a local volunteer-led and organized Meetup group who, in their own words “...challenge our community to think through ways in which technology can enhance and promote real learning to positively transform education…”.  We hosted a free event that brought in folks from all different walks of life - from being directly involved in education, to consultants, like-minded entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts.

Elliot Poulter, Sr. Strategic Partnership Manager at pi-top led a talk on the importance of personalized learning, as well as “learning by making” (what is learning by making? Find out here). He also included some personal anecdotes about being a former tennis instructor, and how no one learns tennis based on theory, so why does that not apply to other life-skills as well?

All of the participants were invited to partner-up (it is social constructionism, after all!) and to complete the first activity in pi-topCODER to build and program their own alarm system. The room immediately erupted into excited chatter and not too long afterwards, with lights and buzzers.

It’s an honor to interact with such progressive and passionate people like the ones who attended the meetup, especially when we are all striving towards the same goal: to empower both students and teachers with the skills to tackle the problems of tomorrow.
